Audio work at the festival FEMINISME – FRIHED – FEST

March 2-4 2017

Møderiet, Fælledvej 9, Copenhagen N and Mellemrummet, Ravnsborggade 11, Copenhagen N

As a part of the festival Feminisme – Frihed – Fest hosted by Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke / Action Aid Denmark, meter has invited the artist Marie Thams to show her sound piece Det handler (ikke) om [It’s (not) about].

Det handler (ikke) om [It’s (not) about] was created on the occasion of the centenary of women’s right to vote in Denmark. The artwork describes the experience of how the physical body and mental capacity are connected and the way gender still influences how you are perceived and how you position yourself in the world.

Performative talk - Marie Thams & Maria Bordoff at SixtyEight Art Institute

22 Oct 2016

As part of the launch of 8 hours? 0,- desire at SixtyEight Art Institute, October 22 2016, Marie Thams and curator and art critic Maria Bordorff had a performative conversation in which they diagnosed the art worker phenomena with the use of a light box and scanned objects.

Each had they selected five aspects of their experiences of the working conditions you face as an art worker. Among the issues were: balancing between economical/material reality and immaterial wish; precarity and what's worse – concern about art and the ability to resist and be critical; reproduction versus production; work with work – obsessed about the topic 'art as labour'; constant view of one's own abyss; exposure; and passivity and acceleration.

Together with the launch of the sound work/publication, artist Kevin Malcolm from Hour Editions (which he runs with artist Kristina Bengtsson) presented the other publications from the series Not not work.

8 hours? 0,- desire by Marie Thams, is the sixth publication in the series Not not work, published by Hour Editions.
