Det vi har til fælles [What we have in common]
2015Performance and prop
Flag: bride satin, wood, tassels.
Measures 100 x 260 cm
Work made specifically for the hundredth anniversary of Danish women's right to vote.
The flag is inspired by the flags used in the celebration of the Danish suffragette movement around 1915. But differently from the historical walks, this young woman carries the banner alone. And thus manifests an insistent, personal and individual awareness of the historical fights and the current public debate and subjective experience of having a gender.
The title Det vi har til fælles [What we have in common] refers to that which we have in common as fellow human beings and points to the fact, that gender questions and the fight for equal rights is a shared challenge.
Pictures are from the exhibition Handlingens resonans [The resonance of action] where a young woman carried the white banner from Viborg Kunsthal, through the centre of Viborg and back to the Kunsthal on selected Saturdays during the exhibition period.
Performer: Frida Marie Damsgaard
The exhibition Handlingens resonans [The resonance of action] focused on the female gender's position in Denmark, socially and politically - 100 years after women gained the right to vote in Denmark.
